2025 LATE BEGINNER BEEKEEPING CLASS

The Fairfax Beekeepers Club is pleased to announce a late season beginning beekeeping classes at South Lakes High School in Reston, VA

The class will be From Tuesday, April 1 to 4 from 7PM to 9PM and Saturday, April 5 from 1 to 5PM.

The Class is normally held over an 8 period, but this late season class will be held over one week and still cover all the same materials. You’ll get a textbook and a USB drive that contains relevant information from dozens of beekeepers with decades of beekeeping experience. A family member (spouse, older child, or significant other) is welcome without additional cost, but you’ll have to share books and materials.

The final class is in the field where you will be able to inspect a beehive with an instructor, locate eggs, brood, queen, and learn to use the tools of the trade

The class covers :

• Bee biology and sociology.
• Proper location for a bee hive
• Types of hives, vendors, and purchasing equipment
• Installing bee packages or nuc hives.
• Spring, summer, fall and winter management.
• Identifying, preventing, and managing disease and pests.
• Products from the hive, including honey, wax, propolis, and pollen.
• Other topics to ensure the success of a new beekeeper.
